Combine Technologies For Oil Spill Recovery
David
Usher, the CEO of Marine Pollution Control in southwest
Detroit, who has cleaned up environmental disasters around
the world for more than 40 years, has developed a unique
pump system for SEAmagine’s SEAmobile submersible.
“Before, we had divers walking on the sea floor trying to
clean up crude and residual oils” says Usher, “With the
SEAmobile, we’ll be able to clean up spills faster and
easier, and in some cases, we won’t need divers.”
Because divers need constant rest – the exact amount is
based on how deep they dive and the level of nitrogen in
their blood – Usher hopes to improve on an already
sterling safety record. “For every fuel spill we’ve
cleaned up, from Exxon Valdez to Hurricane Katrina, I kept
thinking there must be a better way,” he says. Usher
approached SEAmagine Hydrospace Corporation and worked
together to attach the pump system on the submersible. A
successful field demonstration of the combined technology
was presented to NOAA, the US Coast Guard, and the EPA in
Detroit in October.

SEAmagine Delivers its 7th
Submersible
SEAmagine delivered in August
2007 its 7th submersible which is a two person Ocean Pearl
Model depth rated to 300 feet deep. The submersible will be
installed on a luxury yacht in Europe where the pilot
training program will be performed. The submersible received
its A1+ classification certificate by the American Bureau of
Shipping (ABS), an international regulatory organization,
which has surveyed all key aspects during the construction
of the submersible, inspected all functional tests, and
performed a final test dive to the maximum rated depth.
Among various instrumentation the submersible was equipped
with HID underwater lights, forward looking sonar, surface
tracking navigation, and underwater communication.
