Redefining Ocean Access: The SEAmagine-Brim Explorer Electric Catamaran
SEAmagine, a pioneer in manned submersible technology, has joined forces with Brim Explorer, known for its cutting-edge electric vessels, to design a new class of exploration platform: The SEAmagine-Brim Explorer, a 24-meter hybrid or fully electric catamaran.
This collaboration builds on SEAmagine’s three decades of expertise in fully electric submersibles and Brim Explorer’s proven track record in developing and operating hybrid and electric catamarans for sightseeing and whale watching in Norway.
United by a commitment to sustainability and operational excellence, the two companies aim to set a new standard for safe, efficient, and memorable experiences at sea. The vessel is specifically engineered to support SEAmagine submersible operations, offering exceptional efficiency and safety while serving as an ideal base for day trips or longer charters centered on scuba diving, submersible expeditions, and marine adventure.
At the core of this collaborative design is an innovative launch and recovery system that eliminates the need for overhead cranes or A-frames. Instead, it features a unique lift ramp mechanism for deploying the submersible. This approach significantly simplifies operations, making deployment from the mothership more efficient and dependable. The streamlined system is designed to perform reliably in both calm and moderate sea conditions, allowing operators to increase dive frequency and maintain high safety standards with minimal complexity.
A New Catamaran for Submersibles
This SEAmagine-Brim Explorer n is more than a sub tender, it’s a floating base for immersive trips. Early input from operators shaped it as a hybrid liveaboard for 3–7 day expeditions, or as a fully electric day vessel. Its flexibility appeals to tourism operators, yacht owners, and charter groups seeking to integrate underwater experiences.
A Flexible, High-End Guest Experience
Designed for 10–12 guests, the vessel offers five private cabins plus stylish lounges for briefings, relaxation, and socializing. A viewing deck overlooks sub launches, sunsets, and wildlife. The compact galley supports short charters, while storage for photo and dive gear makes it ideal for scuba and submersible missions.Crew and Mission Support
A core crew of five including captain, engineer, stewardess, and two deckhands manages operations. Three specialists add expertise as dive instructors and sub pilots, ensuring guests receive professional guidance during scuba dives, wreck explorations, or deep submersible dives.
Purpose-Built Dive and Submarine Integration
The aft garage houses the SEAmagine sub, dive gear, compressors, and a launch ramp. Designed for safety and efficiency, the system streamlines both scuba and sub ops while maximizing deck use. Crew can seamlessly switch between dive and submersible missions.Propulsion and Performance
The catamaran runs fully electric for 150 km day trips, or in hybrid mode for extended range adding approximately an additional 600 km. Cruising at up to 19 knots, it balances performance, efficiency, and sustainability while ensuring guest comfort
